I'm having a quiet Monday morning, reflecting on my opening week at Maws Craft Centre last week. Its all been pretty overwhelming; the number of people who have visited, and shown support and interest in my work.
On Tuesday, I had a little private opening with friends, family, new neighbours and old colleagues. It was a chance for me to say thank you to all those who have helped me along the way and who have given me such a warm welcome in my new studio here.
Then on Saturday it was my first Open Studio event, where I opened my doors to the public for the first time. It was wonderful to be able to share my work with local residents and visitors to Ironbridge, and it was so affirming to get such positive reactions to my work.
My next Open Studio event is just a couple of weeks away, on Saturday 11 November, so I better get a move on to get my shelves restocked in time. First things first, sorting and grading the willow by length and thickness ready for soaking. Willow weaving is all about getting the right material for the right job, so its not a task to be rushed. Its a lovely mindful activity for a Monday morning.
