Bumblebee Sculpture Trail

Bumblebee willow sculpture

This week, my sculpture trail for the Bumblebee Conservation Trust was installed in Reedswood Park.

Its been a 9-month long project, which started off with my artist residency at the New Art Gallery Walsall last summer - an amazing opportunity to play with new ideas and receive expert mentorship from the Gallery's staff. I then had several months of community workshops, site visits, stakeholder consultations and design developments before the project was finalised. And then, the winter months were spent back in my studio, weaving the giant bumblebees.

I had a huge sense of relief and accomplishment seeing the bees finally safely installed high up in the trees (with thanks to Walsall Council's tree team). The sculpture trail will be officially launched later on this year, and there will also be a celebration event at Reedswood Park to mark the end of 'Bee Inspired Walsall' - a project supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
