'Bee Inspired' Walsall

Studio residency and legacy artwork commission with The New Art Gallery Walsall and The Bumblebee Conservation Trust

I'm delighted to have been awarded an artist residency and legacy artwork commission with The New Art Gallery Walsall and the Bumblebee Conservation Trust as part of 'Bee Inspired' Walsall - a two year project supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

My residency will be based at the Gallery's Artists' Studio for the next three months. The New Art Gallery Walsall is an award-winning gallery in the heart of the West Midlands. Its artist-in-residency programme supports artists based in the region to test ideas and develop new work within a public-facing studio context. I'll be using my time here to find out all I can about bumblebees and engage with the local community, in order to develop a design proposal for a sculpture trail which will be installed somewhere in the city in Spring 2024.

As an emerging artist, who previously worked in a dark and hot attic at the top of two narrow flights of stairs, I can't express how much of a difference having the facilities and support of the incredible gallery will make in helping me take my art practice forward. I can't wait to get started and see where it all takes me.
